KCL Media was founded in 2017 by Kenny Melvin and Lance Jenkins as the Richmond Observer. The Richmond Observer is a fully digital newspaper serving Richmond County, NC and the surrounding Sandhills region. Shortly thereafter, the business expanded beyond digital news growing to include marketing services and the hit morning show Good Morning Sandhills. Further, The Richmond Observer launched Richmond County’s first daily news broadcast: Live at 5. Very likely to be one of a very few such shows to serve a county of less than 50,000 inhabitants. Today, KCL Media continues to excel in the news industry having won 19 awards from the North Carolina Press association. Building on the experience from marketing and news telling, KCL Media now develops technology and services for other news agencies.
